Bart Biebuyck Named Person of the Year at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025
We are proud to share that our Founder & CEO, Bart Biebuyck, has been awarded Person of the Year at the World Hydrogen Awards 2025, held during the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam.
This prestigious recognition celebrates Bart’s visionary leadership, global impact, and his unwavering commitment to accelerating the hydrogen economy—from early innovation to real-world deployment at scale.
A Career Dedicated to Hydrogen Innovation
Bart began his hydrogen journey in 1999 at Toyota Motor Corporation R&D, where he worked on early fuel cell technologies and oversaw the construction of Belgium’s first hydrogen refueling station.
He later served as Executive Director of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) - now the Clean Hydrogen Partnership - for over seven years. During his tenure, he supported more than 340 research and innovation projects and worked with over 1,000 beneficiaries across Europe.
Key milestones under his leadership include:
- Launching the Hydrogen Valley concept
- Supporting the creation of 12+ Hydrogen Valleys across Europe
- Laying the foundation for the EUR 3 billion European Hydrogen Bank
- Founding Green Energy Park — and Delivering at Scale
In 2023, Bart founded Green Energy Park with the mission to make renewable hydrogen competitive at scale.
In just two years, the company has reached major milestones:
- Formed strategic partnerships with Brazilian energy leaders Vale and Eletrobras
- Launched a joint initiative with Vale to decarbonize the European steel industry
- Initiated three large-scale green hydrogen projects in Brazil, selected as EU Global Gateway Flagship Projects for 2025
- Established full operational capabilities in Brazil, including a local engineering team on the ground
